WIP Week 45: Joan Elliott - Celtic Wheel

On the 31st of October the Wheel of the Year starts turning and it seemed like a fitting moment to start a long awaited project: Joan Elliott's Celtic Wheel.

It's being stitched with the recommended threads and fabric: DMC 2 over 2 on 28 count cashel Light Mocha linen. Well, I guess I did change the fabric from aida to linen, but no more. ;)

For the next few days I'll be focusing on finishing the first part of the wheel for Samhain.


As part of a Stitch Maynia's November SAL: Fall, Family, Friends, Fun, and Food I started the Fall Biscornu by The Victoria Sampler:

It's a tiny start, but it will get more stitching time after Celtic Wheel is done for this part of the year.

Due to some DIY-ing in my home I have not managed to get much stitching done apart from this. So that means no update on My Lady of the Snow for last weekend. Hopefully next weekend, because I do enjoy working on her.

Op 31 oktober begint het Jaarwiel te draaien en dat leek een gepast moment om te beginnen met een project waar ik al lang naar uitkijk: Joan Elliott's Celtic Wheel.

Het wordt geborduurd met het aangeraden garen en de aangeraden stof: DMC 2 over 2 op 28 count cashel Light Mocha linnen. Nu ja, ik heb dan wel de stof aangepast van aïda naar linnen, maar dat is alles. ;)

De komende paar dagen zal ik me concentreren op het af maken van het eerste gedeelte van het wiel voor Samhain.


Als onderdeel van Stitch Maynia's November SAL: Fall, Family, Friends, Fun, and Food ben ik gestart met de Fall Biscornu van The Victoria Sampler:

Het is een kleine start, maar het zal meer borduurtijd krijgen nadat Celtic Wheel gedaan is voor dit gedeelte van het jaar.

Door klussen in huis ben ik er niet aan toegekomen om veel meer te borduren naast dit. Dus dat betekent geen update van My Lady of the Snow for afgelopen weekend. Hopelijk aankomend weekend wel, want ik vind het erg leuk om aan haar te werken.

One of my very first cross stitch patterns. I remember making a few of these and giving them away. Working on the Paddington project made me nostalgic, so I decided to stitch these four too. They were perfect for stitching a few minutes here and there throughout the day as I was wrapping up my thesis.

There really is not much to say about this. The company Comar Creatief is a Dutch company, but it does not exist anymore. The designer has only left the signature (MJ) and I do not know who he or she is.

The cats are easy to stitch thanks to the limited number of colours and a very easily readable chart. Only one tiny mistake: the second cat has a missing symbol in the chart, but that was easily solved with some simple improvisation.
Unlike with the Paddington chart, the details were already visible in colour and only emphasized with the limited back stitching. And there were also few quarter back stitches in the charts.

My only bit of criticism on this piece is in relation to the fabric needed for the project. This never was a kit, just the chart, but it failed to give some information on size and count recommended. I guess it's easy to just count the couple dozen stitches of the design's width and height, but since this is a beginner's chart, some advice might have been nice.

WIP Week 44: Passione Ricamo - RL24 My Lady Of The Snow

Whoa, it's been a while. Life got very busy while my good health decided to take a holiday without my permission. But now as things are getting back on track and I have picked up my stitching again, I figured it was time for an update.

Lanarte 9422 is finished!

I will post a review somewhere this week - as well as the review of the 4 cute kitties I finished earlier this year. My apologies for being so terribly behind.

Meanwhile I am still working hard on my project for Borduurblad. With the unexpected and unwelcome break from stitching from July until September it's taking far too long for my liking. But every stitch brings me closer to the finish, right? ;) So we'll carry on.

Through my Facebook Groep (Nederlandse Borduurgroep Heaven And Earth Designs) we started a weekend challenge SAL. As many people expressed a desire to work with beads, but reluctance to start, it seemed like a good idea to make this our main theme for the SAL. The SAL started on the first of October, but new people join us still.

My project for the SAL is RL24 My Lady Of The Snow by Passione Ricamo.

I am stitching her on 32 count linen hand dyed by Under The Sea Fabrics. The colour is called Hurricane.

This weekend will be interesting, as I have two new starts planned. The first one is Joan Elliott's Celtic Wheel and another one is a freebie by The Victoria Sampler; the Fall Biscornu.
Celtic Wheel will be stitched throughout the year as the wheel turns, starting with Samhain on the 31st of October. The Fall Biscornu is part of Stitch Maynia's November SAL: Fall, Family, Friends, Fun, and Food.

Other plans for this year is to finish up kitting my HAED. I still need 70 skeins of DMC and the fabric to start. And I would love to put it on a millennium frame, but we'll have to wait and see if that is an option at all.

Wow, dat is lang geleden! Het werd plotseling erg druk in mijn leven terwijl mijn gezondheid een vakantiepauze inlastte zonder mijn toestemming. Maar nu dingen weer de goede kant op gaan en ik het borduren weer heb opgepakt, leek het me tijd voor een update.

Lanarte 9422 is af!

Ik zal een review posten ergens deze week - evenals een review van de 4 schattige poesjes die ik eerder dit jaar heb af gemaakt. Mijn excuses dat ik zo achterloop.

Ondertussen ben ik nog steeds hard aan het werk voor Borduurblad. Met de onverwachte en onwelkome pauze van borduren van juli tot september duurt het veel te lang naar mijn zin. Maar elk steekjes brengt me dichter bij de finish, toch? :) Dus we zetten door.

De SAL begon op 1 oktober, maar er sluiten zich nog steeds nieuwe mensen aan.

Mijn project voor de SAL is RL24 My Lady Of The Snow van Passione Ricamo.

Dit weekend wordt interessant, want ik heb twee nieuwe projecten gepland. De eerste is Joan Elliott's Celtic Wheel en de andere is een freebie van The Victoria Sampler: de Fall Biscornu.
Celtic Wheel zal ik door het jaar heen borduren zoals het wiel draait, te beginnen met Samhain op 31 oktober. De Fall Biscornu is onderdeel van Stitch Maynia's November SAL: Fall, Family, Friends, Fun, and Food.

Andere plannen voor dit jaar zijn om de kit van mijn HAED verder samen te stellen. Ik moet nog 70 strengetjes DMC en de stof om te starten. En ik zou het heel graag op een millenniumframe borduren, maar we zullen moeten afwachten om te zien of dat überhaupt een optie is.

WIP Week 29: Lanarte 9422

Nearly two months have passed since last I came here. Wow! Time really flies.

I've been inactive for a while, because my studies did not permit me to stitch at all for a couple of weeks. After that I have had to turn all my efforts in finishing my work for Borduurblad. Its not even close to being finished and with little else to stitch, I did not see the use of giving a weekly update anymore. There is, unfortunately, nothing to show.

Despite this I hoped to be able to write a little bit more about stitching in general. I still plan to do this, but I need some time to catch up on my life again. Studies are still ongoing and I'm also busy with redecorating my home, so I have too much on my hands in too little time and cannot find the peace of mind to write a coherent text on stitching.

But no worries. In my experience every moment passes, including the unpleasant ones. ;)

For now a little update on the things I've worked on, minus the project that I cannot show you, but contains most of my stitches.

I have been working on the four little kitty-cats by Comar Creatief. They are finished since the 7th of June.

Last I showed you, I was working on the happy kitty:

One of the other projects I've been working on is Anchor's On The Prowl. It was my very first kit. I never finished it, because I miscalculated and was unable to frog what felt like a million stitches at the time. The age of this design is shown by the fact that the Anchor floss numbers are still on the chart. I bought the necessarily floss and used some aida I still had left from the four kitties. It's my on-the-go project, so it's going very slowly. Especially since now I'm so desperate to finish the piece for Borduurblad, that I've taken that with me even when I'm travelling.
Anyway, here it is:

And occassionally I just need to get my mind off of things - including the Borduurblad piece. I've tried a Vervaco tablecloth from my stash, but I couldn't focus, so I frogged it and put it away again.
I also made a start with my Dimensions Gold kit Elegance of the Orient, but got frustrated with the very stiff fabric and the (broken?) needle. So I didn't get far.
I'm saving it for when I have a little bit more time for relaxed stitching.

Long story short: I took up another Lanarte kit. Again one from Maria van Scharrenburg. It's from the same series as the first project I've shared on this blog: Lanarte 29413 - Maria van Scharrenburg: Verge.

And last but not least: I won Jodyri's second anniversary bingo. The price was a £30 voucher, which I spend on these gorgeous hand-dyed threads:

Bijna twee maanden zijn voorbij gegaan sinds ik hier voor het laatst kwam. Wow! De tijd vlieg inderdaad.

Ik ben lang inactief geweest, omdat mijn studie het niet enkele weken lang helemaal niet toeliet om te borduren. Daarna heb ik al mijn tijd en energie gestopt in het borduren van het project voor Borduurblad. Ik ben nog lang niet klaar en met weinig anders te borduren, zag ik het nut van een wekelijkse update even niet in. Er is, helaas, gewoon niets dat ik kan laten zien.

Desondanks hoopte ik dat ik iets meer over borduren in het algemeen kon schrijven. Dat ben ik nog steeds van plan om te doen, maar ik heb even wat tijd nodig om mijn eigen leven weer te bijbenen. Mijn studie gaat nog steeds door en ik ben ook druk bezig met het opknappen van mijn woning, dus ik heb te veel om handen in te korte tijd en kan niet de rust vinden om een coherent stukje tekst over borduren te schrijven.

Maar geen nood. In mijn ervaring gaat elk moment voorbij, ook de onplezierige. ;)

Voor nu even een kleine update van waar ik zoal aan gewerkt heb, minus het project dat ik niet kan laten zien, maar waar veruit de meest steken in zitten.

Ik ben bezig geweest met de vier kleine katjes van Comar Creatief. Ze zijn sinds 7 juni af.

De laatste keer dat ik iets liet zien, was ik bezig met het blije poesje:

Een van de andere projecten waar ik mee bezig ben is Anchor's Op Jacht. Het was mijn allereerste borduurpakketje. Ik heb heb het nooit afgemaakt, omdat ik me verteld had en het me niet lukte om de - wat toen voelde als miljoenen - steekjes uit te halen. De leeftijd van het patroon is zichtbaar aan het feit dat de Anchor garennummers nog op het patroon staan. Ik heb het benodigde garen gekocht en de aïda die ik nog over had van de vier poesjes gebruikt. Het is mijn reisproject, dus het gaat erg traag. Helemaal sinds ik nu zo wanhopig ben om het project voor Borduurblad af te ronden, dat ik die meeneem als ik ga reizen.
Hoe dan ook, hier is het:

En soms moet ik gewoon mijn gedachten even verzetten van alles dat er gebeurt - inclusief het Borduurbladproject. Ik heb een Vervaco tafelkleed tevoorschijn gehaald, maar daar kon ik me niet op concentreren, dus die heb ik uitgehaald en weer weggelegd. Ik heb ook een start gemaakt met mij Dimensions Goldpakket: Oosterse Elegantie, maar ik raakte gefrustreerd van de zeer stijve stof en de (kapotte?) naald. Dus daar ben ik niet ver mee gekomen.
Ik bewaar hem voor als ik iets meer tijd heb om ontspannen te borduren.

Om een lang verhaal kort te maken: ik ben nog een Lanartepakket begonnen. Wederom eentje van Maria van Scharrenburg. Het is van dezelfde serie als het eerste project dat ik heb laten zien op deze blog: Lanarte 29413 - Maria van Scharrenburg: Berm.

En tot slot: Ik heb Jodyri's tweede verjaardagsbingo gewonnen. De prijs was een waardebon van £30, die ik heb gebruikt voor deze prachtige handgeverfde garens:

WIP Week 21: Comar Creatief Kitties|Poesjes

A quick update, because I do not have much to share. I am very busy wrapping up my bachelor degree studies and thesis, so there is not much time for stitching. In fact, I had to put away Box of Delights, because it was too distracting. I am back to easy stitching and for now that means the kitties of Comar Creatief. I'm working on the third one, but I have not even managed to finish that.

Last weekend I did get a couple of hours of stitching in, but that was on the secret project, so I can't show photos.

Een korte update, omdat ik niet veel te delen heb. Ik ben druk met het afronden van mijn bacheloropleiding en scriptie, dus er is niet veel tijd voor borduren. Sterker nog, ik heb Box of Delights opgeruimd, want het was een te grote afleiding. Ik ben weer bezig met simpel borduurwerk en voor nu betekent dat de poesjes van Comar Creatief. Ik ben bezig met de derde, maar zelfs die heb ik niet kunnen af maken.

Afgelopen weekend heb ik een paar uur kunnen borduren, maar dat was aan het geheime project, dus ik kan geen foto's laten zien.

WIP Week 20: Blackwork Journey - Box of Delights

I was determined to finish the outlines for Box of Delights this week, so my weekly update is a little later. I'll try to catch up soon.

The majority of my stitching time is dedicated to the project for Borduurblad, so there is not much to show you. I did finish the second cat of the designs by Comar Creatief:

Ik was vastbesloten om de randen voor Box of Delights af te maken deze week, dus mijn wekelijkse update is een beetje later. Ik hoop gauw de achterstand weer in te halen.

Het meerendeel van mijn borduurtijd wordt besteed aan het project voor Borduurblad, dus ik kan helaas niet veel laten zien. Het is me wel gelukt om de tweede kat van de ontwerpen van Comar Creatief af te maken:

WIP Week 19: Blackwork Journey - Box of Delights

Time for another weekly update. First there is a finish. Paddington, RC-7014 by Royal Crown is finished! You can read all about it in my previous post.

I have stitched myself a bit closer to the centre of the Blackwork SAL by Blackwork Journey.

The fox on Eva Rosenstand's bell pull The Hunt II is close to getting its eyes and nose stitched.

And the kitty of Comar Creatief's designs has some fur, but is not really stitched on at all:

The reason for the lack of progress on my WIPs is the exciting news I was talking about last month. Now I can finally share it with you: I am one of the new model stitchers for the Dutch embroidery magazine Borduurblad. Although I am very excited about it - and am enjoying the projects very much - there is not much I can show you about their progress. They are to remain secret until publication, so we need to be patient.
I put in quite a few thousand stitches on one of these projects. It has a tight deadline, so I have had to put away Eva Rosenstand's The Hunt II. Nevertheless I want to keep showing some progress each week, so I will keep on stitching on Box of Delights and the cats.

Tijd voor weer een wekelijkse update. Allereerst is er een finish. Paddington, RC-7014 door Royal Crown is af! Je kunt meer lezen in mijn vorige post.

Ik heb mezelf een stukje dichter naar het centrum van de Blackwork SAL van Blackwork Journey geborduurd.

De vos van Eva Rosenstand's schellekoord De Jacht II is bijna zover dat het ogen en een neus krijgt.

En het poesje van Comar Creatiefs ontwerpen heeft een beetje vacht, maar er is eigenlijk niet aan geborduurd:

De reden voor mijn gebrek aan vooruitgang aan mijn WIPs is het spannende nieuwes waar ik het vorige maand over had. Nu kan ik het eindelijk met jullie delen: ik ben een van de nieuwe modelborduursters van Borduurblad. Hoewel ik hier heel erg blij mee ben - en met veel plezier aan de projecten werk - kan ik je niet veel laten zien van hun vooruitgang. Ze moeten geheim blijven tot publicatie, dus we moeten geduldig zijn.
Ik heb een paar duizend steekjes geborduurd op een van deze projecten. Het heeft een strakke deadline, dus ik heb Eva Rosenstands De Jacht II op moeten bergen. Niettemin wil ik elke week een beetje vooruitgang laten zien, dus ik blijf borduren aan Box of Delights en de katten.
